Small Batch Lavender Essential Oil - 2023
We have a very special gift for you, my friends. A limited release of 2023 Tumalo Lavender Essential Oil, aged to the peak of perfection.
Last weekend, I bicycled out to Tumalo Lavender Farm for the annual Volunteer Harvest Day and joined many members of our community in a celebration of lavender. We spent hours hand harvesting the flowers and carrying them to the distillation shed where they were immediately steam distilled into hydrosol and essential oil.
The essence is very unique, honey sweet and intriguing. This beautiful oil is 100% organic small batch artisan oil. Distilled from Tumalo Lavender Farm plants and distilled on the premises.
This is a 15ml bottle.
Each perfect lavender flower is picked by hand and steam distilled immediately to ensure critical freshness, then aged a year to bring out the aromatic complexity and richness.
Tumalo Lavender Farm was built by Gordon and Judy Knight in 2005, with an obsessive passion for growing the finest lavender possible. Carefully created by selective breeding over many years, the Lavendula angustifolia English strain that we use in our formulas is unique in its aromatic profile. In 2008, Gordon showed up at my little shop, bursting with excitement- his lavender had placed second in the world, surpassing centuries old farms in Europe.
Gordon and I became dear friends over the years, geeking out on plant science together. In 2013, they were unable to find enough workers for the harvest, so I invited our team at aos and dozens of customers out for a harvest party and an annual tradition was born. Gordon and Judy recently retired and the farm is now in the wise and capable hands of four amazing women- Marilyn and her daughters Summer, Victoria and Holly who are continuing the volunteer harvest tradition.
The fragrance of this oil is unlike any other lavender essential oil I’ve experienced. Soft and delicate, it lacks the sharp camphorish notes that can make lavender unappealing. One whiff and our eyes close, heart calm, heavenly.
Because all their farming is done by hand, using ancient and organic methods, this oil is more expensive than most. I guarantee it's worth the small investment.
We love using our English lavendula angustifolia essential oil in many of our formulas. From our world famous Skin Doctor salve to facial moisturizers, it elevates and enhances the aromatic experience. Additionally, this lavender oil is calming to our skin, nervous systems and helps soften grief while encouraging deep, restful sleep. It’s antiseptic properties are valuable for healing small wounds and it takes the sting and itch out of bug bites.
We use it at home on a daily basis, infusing our lives with the aroma. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to share some with you and invite you to treat yourself to this special gift from our local farm.
