Diving In: How to Use the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil

Let’s talk about how to use the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil.

super-concentrate and designed to be use a precious few drops at a time, blended into another product like a facial serum, mask or moisturizer, to boost its effectiveness. It contains a massive 10% essential oils - farm too much to regularly use straight on our skin.

The general rule of thumb, when formulating with essential oils, is to add no more than 2% total to a formula. All of our other facial products contain about 1% or less essential oil content. This is why we consider the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil to be a "concentrate".

So why do we make the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil with 10% of essential oils? I designed this formula to be a “booster”- as something to add to your facial mask, serum or moisturizer to boast the effects. So you only need to add about 3 drops of the Blue Sapphire to another product.

What does the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil do?

  • Brightens darker spots and patches
  • Potent antioxidants reverse the effects of sun and environmental damage
  • Soothes and calms upset skin* (if you aren't sensitive to essential oils)
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Improves skin firmness and elasticity
  • Nourishes depleted skin

blue tansy essential oil photo  Blue Tansy Oil is also known as Moroccan Chamomile. It is rich in chamazulene, a powerful ingredient to help soothe and calm skin and reduce the appearance of redness. Ours is wild harvested and steam-distilled from the fresh flowers.

Moroccan fig seed oil  Moroccan Fig Seed Oil, used by Berber women for generations to combat dry desert conditions, this oil has extraordinary anti-aging properties. It contains almost 150% more of the antioxidant tocopherol (vitamin E) than Argan oil. It can help soothe skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Ours is wild harvested and pressed by a small family-owned-and-run company.

How is it Different From the New Blue Sapphire Body Oil?

Our new Blue Sapphire Illuminating Body Oil is meant to be used on its own. The essential oil content is closer to 1.5%. Lavished on, really. Don’t be shy- this should go on absolutely everywhere. From toes to hair, if you have dry skin, even on your beautiful face.

Even though we wrote the word "Body" on the label, I've been treating my face to a massage with it now and then when I'm feeling dry and overexposed to sun and wind- and my skin seems very happy about it. I pour a little puddle in my palm, add three drops of the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil to boost it up, blend it with my fingertips and then massage it over my face, throat and chest.

How to use the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil:

AM or PM?

You can use the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil morning or night, but I always recommend using it as part of your nighttime skincare ritual. While we sleep, our body switches gears and goes into "healing and repair mode". We build new cells, fight off infection, slow down inflammation, process nutrients and toxins, build muscle and repair injuries and other damage in all parts of our bodies. This is the main reason getting good sleep is so important- it literally is "beauty sleep"!  Plant extracts and essential oils in the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil give our bodies more tools to do this important work, so using them at night is very beneficial.

That said, if you're using another brand of retinol cream, layering the Blue Sapphire underneath it or blending it in may be too much for your skin to handle. In this case, play it safe and add the Blue Sapphire to your morning serum or moisturizer.

1. Daily Use:
Once a day, either morning or evening:
In the palm of your hand, make a small puddle of a facial mask, serum or moisturizer. Add 3 drops Blue Sapphire Facial Oil. Mix and apply.

2. Weekly Intensive Treatment:
First, do a patch test to see how your skin responds. If you don’t have a negative reaction, you can try using it on its own.
Apply several drops to clean skin, massage in with your fingertips. Follow with a layer of your favorite serum or moisturizer.
