Skin Type 5
SKIN TYPE #5
BALANCED + AGING
Aging skin tends to have a buildup of dead skin cells and can be dull, and often lacks elasticity and firmness. AHA's like lactic acid and a gentle scrub effectively exfoliate and speed cellular turnover.
Our approach to aging skin is to replace some missing nutrients, repair general damage that's happened over the years, get rid of that dead skin and give ourselves the gift of instant firming satisfactions (yes- plants can do all that!). Nourishing botanical lipids and ceramides, along with hyaluronic acid and mushroom extracts deeply hydrate while bioactive peptides and firming botanicals straight from Mother Nature bring back the bounce.
Symptoms of Skin Type 5
- Skin feels oily in some areas and dry in others
- Pimple and breakouts happen occasionally to often, especially in the “T” zone.
- Skin is sensitive and prone to redness and / or flaking

Products We Recommend:
STEP 1: Cleanse
Aging skin, even when it isn't chronically dry, can almost always use some extra hydration. Look for cream based cleansers that are free of soap, high foaming surfectants and don't contain any synthetic fragrance or color.

STEP 2: Exfoliate & Mask
As we age, our hormones change and our production of growth hormone drops dramatically. This leads to a slow down in creating new skin cells, a build up of dead, dull skin cells and aging of our live cells. This all sounds pretty depressing, but fortunately there's an easy way to stimulate our bodies to make fresh new cells - exfoliation. When we remove the layer of dull, dead skin, it sends a chemical signal deep into the dermis to start making new cells - our skin literally gets younger! With that layer of dead skin gone, your leave-on products will be more easily absorbed and will work much better. If you feel like your serums and moisturizer are just sitting on top of your skin, it's time to exfoliate!
Feeding our skin the vital nutrients that we no longer make as much of keeps our skin youthful and healthy. Mother Nature supplies all the goodness like hyaluronic acid, and plant actives that stimulate collagen and elastin production.

STEP 3: Tone & Restore pH
Cleansers work by being slightly basic on the pH scale, while our skin is slightly acidic (pH 5.5). Toners are designed to both remove any traces of dirt or makeup left on your skin after cleansing and to bring your skin back into pH balance. Aging skin is almost always sun damaged, so look for a toner that's gentle and brightening. Avoid toners that contain alcohol, synthetic fragrance or other irritating ingredients.

Treating your skin daily with a facial serum or oil before you moisturize is one of the best ways you can see gratifying results. Serums and facial oils are packed with powerful ingredients in a base that can effectively deliver those ingredients into the skin. Look for products with pro-aging ingredients like vegan HA (hyaluronic acid), collagen boosters, stem cells and brightening ingredients. Plants even provide instant firming compounds, which is always a bonus!

STEP 5: Moisturize & Protect
All skin benefits from some extra moisture and using a daily mineral spf goes a long way toward keeping your skin healthy and youthful. At night, opt for a moisturizer without spf and consider alternating that with an overnight mask that helps reverse some of the ravages of aging.
