More Than What’s In The Bottle

When you hold a bottle of aos skincare in your hands, you’re holding far more than the formula inside.

What isn’t always visible are the months, and sometimes years, of work that happen long before a product ever reaches your bathroom shelf. The ingredient sourcing, formulation trials, research, packaging decisions, production schedules, countless rounds of testing, and the hundreds of tiny details that quietly shape every single product we create.

In a world where so much is automated and outsourced, we’ve always chosen a different path.

At aos, nearly everything happens in-house. Not because it is easier, but because we believe the care that goes into making skincare matters just as much as the ingredients themselves.

We thought it was time to share more of what that process actually looks like.

Not just what goes into your skincare, but everything it takes to bring it to life.

It Always Begins Long Before Formulation

For us, creating skincare doesn’t begin in the lab.

It begins with you. Your unique skin needs, your questions and requests. We listen and we keep a running log of the needs we aren't currently meeting. And we get to work.

It all begins with plants.

Long before we ever begin developing a formula, we spend months sourcing ingredients from growers and suppliers we trust deeply. We search for organic botanicals grown with care, study extraction methods, review research behind active ingredients, and build relationships with farmers who share our commitment to sustainability and quality.

Some ingredients take months to source properly.

Sometimes longer.

Because every botanical has its own story long before it ever becomes part of a formula.

Where it was grown.
How it was harvested.
How it was processed.
How fresh it is when it reaches our hands.

These details matter to us because they ultimately shape the quality of what reaches your skin.

Some Of Our Best Products Started With A Conversation

One of our favorite parts of creating new products is listening.

Many formulations you now know and love began because customers reached out to us asking for something specific.

Sometimes it starts with a recurring question.

A request for a product we don’t yet make, a skincare concern we hear often enough that we know it deserves our attention.

From there begins what can sometimes be a very long process.

We research ingredients extensively. Study formulation possibilities. Create test batches. Evaluate texture, absorption, ingredient compatibility, shelf stability, performance, and how the formula actually feels on the skin.

Then we test again. And again.

It is not unusual for a product to take years before it ever feels complete enough to share.

We believe skincare should be intentional, and thoughtful products simply take time.

Every Bottle Is Made By Hand

This is perhaps the part of our process that surprises people most.

Unlike many skincare brands, we do not outsource manufacturing.

Every product is formulated, blended, poured, filled, labeled, packaged, and prepared right here by our own hands.

Small batch production has always been part of our philosophy because freshness matters.

There are many evenings spent staying long after the workday should have ended, carefully making fresh batches so customer orders can be filled the very next morning.

Not because we have to, but because we genuinely care about sending out products as fresh as possible.

It has always been worth the extra effort.

Slow, Thoughtful Work In A Fast World

There are certainly easier ways to do what we do.

There are factories, large-scale production facilities, automated filling systems and mass manufacturing, but none of that is aligned with the kind of company we’ve spent decades building.

Here, there are no assembly lines, just careful hands moving through every step with intention. We choose slower processes because slower processes allow for more attention, better oversight, and greater connection to what we are creating.

Every label placed by hand.

Every bottle individually filled.

Every package carefully prepared before it leaves our doors.

There is an intimacy in creating products this way that we never want to lose.

Why We Continue To Do It This Way

From the very beginning, aos has always believed that skincare carries energy beyond ingredients alone.

The care poured into making something becomes part of the experience itself.

Every bottle represents hundreds of thoughtful decisions.

The farms we choose to support, the ingredients we choose not to compromise on. The formulas we continue refining until they feel truly exceptional. The extra hours spent making fresh product late into the evening. The hands that carefully package every order before it leaves our studio.

When you support aos, you are supporting more than skincare, you are supporting craftsmanship, intentional sourcing, small batch production, human hands doing careful work and a slower, more thoughtful approach to creating products that nourish skin naturally.

And for that, we are deeply grateful.

Thank you for supporting truly small-batch skincare.

It means more than you know.
