Restoring the Sacred - Sandalwood

Sandalwood, a sacred tree that grows in the far east, has woody, smokey and sweet heart notes that complement the warm and rich balsamic base, with a tenacious woody dry-down that smells fresh, sweet and herbal. It is commonly used as a base note in perfumery. We love the aroma and the skin benefits of this precious oil. Sandalwood has been harvested almost to extinction in the wild, so sustainable sourcing is imperative. We source our sandalwood essential oil from regenerative farms in Western Australia that have transformed their ecosystems beautifully.

The Skin Benefits of Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a powerful emollient, reducing dryness and replenishing the moisture in skin, increasing elasticity. The oil also firms skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We love it for its soothing effects. Calming compounds in the steam distilled essential oil even out tone, reduce the appearance of scars and leave skin renewed and refreshed.

Kama Body Incense Perfume has Returned in another Limited Edition Batch

Sandalwood is the base note in our Kama Body Incense- our most exotic, sensuous perfume. The aroma is genderless and blooms with your body heat to bring a sense of calm, groundedness and pleasure.

Sustainability

Sandalwood, prized not only for its essential oil, but the beautiful, red and aromatic wood itself, has been a favorite for furniture and carvings for centuries. As world trade grew and demand for this slow-growing wood increased, so did the deforestation. Entire forests were chopped down and the landscape and ecosystems were devastated. Fortunately, some humans have found a way to begin creating regenerative farms, especially in western Australia.

Sandalwood trees only thrive when grown with other trees. This is because they photosynthesize, but are also dependent on host trees for water and certain nutrients. Sandalwood can be successfully grown near a range of host species, but is happiest growing near nitrogen-fixing trees, especially acacias. The beauty is, when you begin growing multiple species of trees in a large area, all sorts of other plants and animals come to live and an entire forest ecosystem develops. This is what's happening in western Australia.

Red Sandalwood Powder

Just a few decades ago, when you bought sandalwood essential oil, powder or a carving, it was most likely that a wild tree was cut down for that. Now, you can rest assured that your purchase, when sourced from the right farm, creates a little more beauty in the world. Purchasing sandalwood essential oil is one of the many ways we embody our Full Circle Beauty philosophy. Our goal is for every ingredient we use to help the Earth - all species - thrive.
