IN HONOR OF NATIONAL TAKE A HIKE DAY

“Take a Hike.” Usually, that’s meant as an insult, but not this Friday, November 17th. Also known as National Hiking Day, it’s a great excuse to enjoy getting outside and connecting with nature and those you love.

There are several ways you can participate in and celebrate the day.

Organize a Hike with Friends:

Take some time today to not only connect with nature but also with family and friends. Taking a hike together is a great way to relax, reconnect and get some exercise all at the same time.

Explore a New Trail:

Take the opportunity to discover a trail you haven't explored before.

Take Some Pictures Along the Way:

Bring your camera (aka: usually, your phone) and spend some time on your hike photographing the beauty around you and encouraging others to get outside. Share your photos on social media tagging #takeahikeday and #nationalhikingday.

Attend a Demonstration or Workshop:

If you can’t get outside on Take a Hike Day but still want to celebrate, consider attending a skills workshop or informational event celebrating all that being outside has to offer. If you’re the expert, consider hosting an event.

Volunteer to do Trail Maintenance Work:

We all love the trails. We all use the trails. Let’s all help maintain the trails. Every state has organizations that need volunteers to help with trail maintenance in your area.

Attend or Host a Gear Swap:

Do you have a pair of boots that are still in good shape but just don’t work for you anymore? Need some new hiking poles? Get some friends together and host a gear swap. It’s a great way to reuse, recycle and save some money on gear.

Make Outdoor Time Family Time:

Get the whole gang together for some exercise and fun. Disconnecting from the stresses of daily life is a great way for a family to spend time together.

Challenge Yourself:

Challenge yourself, and maybe others, to take a hike on a more advanced or aggressive trail. A little competition can add to the fun.

Remember to be safe, be prepared, respect the rules of the trail and Enjoy!
