Are you feeling overwhelmed with the barrage of conflicting information about skincare on the internet? Or maybe your skin is sensitive and just doesn’t do well with a lot of different products and attention? Maybe you’re just starting to care for your skin. Or life is hectic and you can’t imagine adding anything more to your day, but you still want to take great care of your skin. Perhaps you simply enjoy simplicity! There are a lot of reasons to keep skincare simple and your skin doesn’t have to suffer, in fact it can be fantastic!
Creating a minimalist skincare routine with multipurpose products can be both efficient and effective. Here’s our guide on how to use multipurpose products for a simple skincare routine.
Use a Multi-Functional Cleanser
Double cleansing is an effective way to remove makeup and sunscreen at day’s end, but it does take a bit of time to complete. If you're looking for an equally effective and efficient way to cleanse your skin, consider using an oil-based cleanser or micellar water to get the job done quickly and efficiently. The Apricot Cleansing Oil gently and effectively removes makeup without drying the skin and the Apple Chamomile Micellar Water does an excellent job of removing makeup and cleansing the skin in one easy step.
Keep your morning routine simple. Unless you didn’t wash your face the night before (no shade, we’ve all done this), you do not need to use cleanser in the mornings. Simply splash your face with lukewarm water and continue on with your usual morning routine.
SPF Moisturizer During the Day
Protecting your skin from damaging UV rays is one of the best things you can do for it. Use an SPF 30+ product during the day that also provides your skin with the extra care it needs.
A moisturizing formula for dry and dehydrated skin should feature nourishing ingredients like glycerin, peptides and ceramides. For oilier skin, choose a lighter, matte formula that can also act as a primer underneath your makeup. Our antioxidant rich Broad Spectrum Sunshade Lotion provides a high SPF while nourishing your skin with Shea butter and kukui nut oil. Best of all, it’s not too heavy, so it works for most skin types.
You can also boost the moisture of your SPF by putting a hydrating serum underneath. But, do not mix your serum with your SPF moisturizer. This can potentially weaken the SPF protection and put your skin at risk. Ultra-C Serum is great for daytime or nighttime use because the brightening vitamin C extracts we use are non-sun sensitizing.
Double Duty Exfoliation
Exfoliation may seem like an unnecessary extra step, but it is key to a healthy skincare routine. Dead skin builds up over time, clogging pores and preventing your leave-on products from penetrating and actually doing what they’re supposed to do. If your skin looks dull, congested, flaky, or if your moisturizer seems to have stopped working, you need to exfoliate.
Opt for a multipurpose exfoliant like the Coconut Lactic Peel that combines both exfoliating and hydrating ingredients. You can exfoliate and hydrate in one easy step 2-3 times per week with this easy to use mask. Simply wash your face, add a light layer of the cream, wait 10-15 minutes and rinse it off. Easy!
If You Occasionally Have Extra Time - Mask
If you have the time, try integrating a mask that serves many purposes into your routine. For oily skin using a clay-based mask can help clear up clogged pores. For drier skin, the Beauty Sleep Mask can act as an exfoliant and your nighttime moisturizer in one. And bonus, it doesn’t need to be rinsed off, simply apply and head to bed.
You don’t need to use a lot of products to get great results. Simply use high quality products that are well-suited to your needs and be consistent with your routine. Your skin, schedule and wallet will all benefit.
