Recommended Skincare Ritual for Skin Type 1
STEP 1: Cleanse
Oily skin needs some good deep cleansing and astringent botanicals that keep breakouts at bay.
We Recommend: Verbena & Sage Cleanser
STEP 2: Exfoliate & Mask
Dead skin cells are flat and angular, building up to clog your pores and exacerbate breakouts. They key to exfoliating is to find the balance between doing it regularly, but not overdoing it. You want to remove the dead skin, but not damage the live cells underneath. If you're scrubbing or using an acid-based exfoliator and notice that your skin feels raw or very sensitive, it's time to back off and wait a few days. Look for products with natural salicylic acid (willow bark) that dissolves oil and dirt deep within your pores. The natural form won't make your skin dry and flaky like synthetic salicylic acid does. Scrubbing is good! Just avoid large, angular particles like apricot, walnut or sugar that can damage and tear your skin.
We Recommend: Seaweed & Mint Exfoliating Scrub and/or the Coconut Lactic Peel
STEP 3: Tone & Restore pH
Toners remove any little bits of dirt and makeup after you cleanse and restore your skin's slightly acidic pH after you cleanse (cleansers are slightly basic). You can use a toner for a quick no-rinse cleanse. Avoid toners with alcohol and synthetic fragrances.
We Recommend: Yarrow & Willow Bark BHA Toner
STEP 4: Treat
while also keeping those pores clear and combating breakouts. For those oily areas, you may want a serum with a natural salicylic acid (BHA) to keep your pores open and help reduce the appearance of your pores. Serums and facial oils are packed with powerful ingredients in a base that can effectively deliver those ingredients into the skin. Look for serums that contain calming and hydrating ingredients, as well as plant stem cells to stimulate cellular renewal and collagen and elastin boosters.
We Recommend: Willow Bark Pore Refining Serum (salicylic / BHA) - as needed for oily areas and the Apple Stem Cell Radiance Serum (to calm redness and build up your moisture barrier)
STEP 5: Moisturize & Protect
All skin benefits from some extra moisture and using a daily mineral spf goes a long way toward keeping your skin healthy. At night, opt for a slightly richer moisturizer with calming botanicals.
We Recommend: Apple Stem Cell Daily Radiance Cream spf 15 (AM) and the Saving Grace Night Cream (PM)
