Skin Type 3
SKIN TYPE #3
Skin Type 3 is what we call combination- tending to be oily in some places, dry in others, in need of pro-aging support, but still prone to occasional breakouts. It requires gentle pore-clearing exfoliants and cleansers that don't dry out the skin. Apple amino acids and natural BHA (willow bark extract) keep pores clear and prevent breakouts while sugar-based lactic acid both exfoliates and hydrates at once.
Symptoms of Skin Type 3
- Skin feels oily in some areas and dry in others
- Pimple and breakouts happen occasionally to often, especially in the “T” zone.
- Skin is sensitive and prone to redness and / or flaking

Recommended Skincare Ritual for Skin Type 3
STEP 1: Cleanse
A good daily cleanse goes a long way towards keeping your skin clear and healthy. When you have chronically dry skin that is also prone to breakouts, a good soap-free gel based cleanser can help you find the perfect balance.
We Recommend:Â Apple Chamomile Cleansing Gel
STEP 2: Exfoliate & Mask
Removing dead skin cells once or twice a week opens up your pores, helping to prevent breakouts and also allows your leave-on products to work better. When you remove dead skin, a chemical signal is sent down into the dermis to stimulate new cell formation - your skin literally gets younger! The trick is exfoliating without causing irritation. Gentle scrubs with round particles (like spherical jojoba wax beads) can polish off dead skin cells without catching and damaging live skin. Avoid scrubs made with angular particles like sugar, salt, walnut and apricot.
A pro-aging mask that stimulates collagen and helps reverse some of the years of sun damage is really helpful too!
We Recommend:
Coconut Lactic Peel (1-2 nights a week)
Cucumber Face Polish (2-3 nights a week)
Beauty Sleep Overnight Brightening Mask (3 nights a week -alternate with your night moisturizer)
STEP 3: Tone & Restore pH
Toners remove any little bits of dirt and makeup after you cleanse and restore your skin's slightly acidic pH after you cleanse (cleansers are slightly basic). You can use a toner for a quick no-rinse cleanse. Avoid toners with alcohol and synthetic fragrances.
We Recommend:Â Lavender & Aloe Facial Toner
STEP 4: Treat
Aging, sun-damaged skin craves a daily dose of nutrients and ingredients to help reverse some of that sun damage. For those oily areas, you may want a serum with a natural salicylic acid (BHA) to keep your pores open and help reduce the appearance of your pores. Serums and facial oils are packed with powerful ingredients in a base that can effectively deliver those ingredients into the skin. Look for serums that contain brightening and hydrating ingredients, as well as plant stem cells to stimulate cellular renewal and collagen and elastin boosters.
We Recommend:Â
Willow Bark Pore Refining Serum (as needed for your breakout prone areas)
STEP 5: Moisturize & Protect
All skin benefits from some extra moisture and using a daily mineral spf goes a long way toward keeping your skin healthy and youthful. At night, opt for a moisturizer without spf and consider alternating that with an overnight mask that helps reverse some of the ravages of aging.
We Recommend:
Youth in Bloom Phytoactive Firming Day Cream (spf 15) (AM)
Youth in Bloom Phytoactive Firming Night Cream (PM)
Beauty Sleep Overnight Brightening Mask (alternate nights with the Firming Night Cream for optimal results)
